September 12th 2006, Leonard Peltier will be 62 and this will be the
30th birthday he spends in jail, away from his children and grand
children for a crime he has not committed.
The government is admittedly withholding approximately 100 thousand
more pages of documents that could contain the proof of
Leonard’s
innocence and refuses to release this information in spite of the
« Freedom of Information Act », on the grounds that
it
would harm national security.
FOIA is a law that is designed to ensure public access to records
maintained by the federal government.
Injustice, prejudice and violence is the sad reality that the American
Indians people have to face daily and that reality is still ignored by
the media.
Leonard Peltier has become the symbol of the fight for justice and
recognition of American Indians’ rights.
